Chadwick Boseman shouts out Howard University during NAACP Image Awards acceptance speech
The NAACP Image Awards are going down at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and one of our favorite men already snagged a major award. Chadwick Boseman took home the trophy for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his leading role in Black Panther.
The Marvel film directed by Ryan Coogler earned a whopping 14 nominations and Boseman wasted no time shouting out his alma mater, Howard University, during his acceptance speech.

“H.U.!” he shouted at the start of his speech after being handed the trophy by his Black Panther costar, Danai Gurira.
“You know what they say? Black people always thank God when they win and I’m not gon’ let you down…Thank you God for not just winning. Thank you God for the trials and tribulations that you allow us to go through so we can appreciate these moments. So we can appreciate the joy that comes from winning,” he said.
5 things we REALLY hope to see at this year’s NAACP Image Awards
Chadwick Boseman took time to send love to his fellow nominees including Denzel Washington and Michael B. Jordan, who nabbed the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as Killmonger in the record-breaking flick.
“It’s a beautiful time in Black film making that we are celebrating right now,” he said. “It’s not just a normal time. We have to recognize that.”

Although the orchestra started playing before he was done with his speech, he continued to thank his loved ones (including his girlfriend, Simone) for their support, unphased by the show’s attempt to hurry him off the stage.
“I can do it to the music,” he joked before honoring the film’s director, Ryan Coogler.
“My director, you are a genius,” he concluded.
Congrats!
